How to Make the Most Popular Pasta Sauce Recipe

Everyone loves pasta, and everyone loves the most popular pasta sauce recipe on the market. Unfortunately, this sauce isn’t made at home very often, because it takes an entire day to make. That’s where you come in!

Here are some tips to help you get that sauce up and out of the kitchen quickly so you can focus on enjoying your meal or just getting back to your daily life. You’ll be eating homemade sauce before you know it!

Ingredients

1 medium sized onion, diced; 1 green bell pepper, diced; 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced; 8 cloves of garlic, minced; salt and pepper to taste.

A few tablespoons of olive oil (the more you use, the richer it will be) 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes 3 cups water 3 bay leaves Fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional) Fresh parsley, chopped (optional) Salt and pepper to taste. Optional ingredients: 1⁄2 cup heavy cream 1⁄2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Instructions: In a large saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté onions until translucent.

Add bell peppers and jalapeños for about 5 minutes or until tender. Add garlic, stir for about a minute then add tomatoes along with water and season with salt & pepper. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low-medium for about 20 minutes or until sauce thickens slightly.

Remove from heat then add basil & parsley if using fresh herbs instead of dried ones. Season again with salt & pepper if needed. Serve over your favorite pasta, garnish with parmesan cheese and enjoy! Include as many details as possible in your instructions. It’s better to have too much information than not enough information.

Include any tips that might help people achieve success when following your instructions. Be sure to include pictures where appropriate so people can see what they should be aiming for when making their own sauce. Remember to always use correct spelling and grammar when writing your post.

Method 1 - The Traditional Way

Start by using a high-quality olive oil. Olive oil is a key ingredient in nearly every traditional recipe, because it brings out and enhances other flavors while adding its own layer of richness. Use only extra virgin olive oil, as it has a sweeter flavor and higher level of monounsaturated fats that are beneficial for heart health.

Try to buy an organic extra virgin olive oil. It should be stored in a cool, dark place so that it retains its freshness; you don’t want rancid tasting sauce! Method 2 - The Quick Way: If you're short on time, canned tomatoes can make a good base for pasta sauce.

Just be sure to look at labels carefully—you want whole or diced tomatoes packed in their own juices (not tomato puree). You'll also need to add some herbs and spices (like basil or oregano) to liven up your pasta sauce. Some people also like to add garlic or onion powder, but if you do, use sparingly since they can easily overpower your dish. Mix all of these ingredients together with some water or chicken broth until well combined before simmering on low heat until thickened (about 20 minutes).

Add salt and pepper to taste. Once cooked through, serve over spaghetti noodles with Parmesan cheese on top! Method 3 - A New Twist: When it comes to making sauces, sometimes less is more. If you find yourself struggling to put something delicious together from scratch, then try buying store-bought pasta sauce instead.

Keep an eye out for reduced sodium options or healthier brands like Amy's Organic Tomato Basil Spaghetti Sauce . Whichever method you choose, just remember that cooking is about experimentation! If one thing doesn't work out quite right, try another approach next time. Experimentation is what makes cooking fun! And don't forget to have a little fun too! Don't stress too much when things go wrong--it happens to everyone! Now get cookin' and enjoy those tasty homemade meals!

Method 2 - The Instant Pot Way

The best part about Instant Pot recipes is how quick and easy they are! With a few simple ingredients, a meal can be on your table in no time. That’s why you should try making homemade pasta sauce in your Instant Pot. This recipe takes less than 15 minutes of prep time and cooks in just 5 minutes.

A classic Italian tomato sauce simmered with basil, oregano, garlic, onions and Parmesan cheese will make any night feel like an evening at an Italian restaurant. The veggies for your pasta sauce cook right along with your sauce as it cooks under pressure—no steaming or boiling required! Serve over spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles for added benefits! Serves 4-6 people.

Time to Cook assumes starting with store-bought crushed tomatoes (in cans or tetra packs). Fresh tomatoes can add 20 minutes additional cooking time. Add 1 minute cooking time per extra cup of crushed tomatoes used. Preparation Time: 10 min Cooking Time: 5 min Total Time: 15 min Method 2 - The Instant Pot Way Ingredients: 1 lb ground beef (or turkey) 1/2 tsp dried oregano leaves 2 cloves garlic, minced 3 cups crushed tomatoes 2 cups chicken broth 2 Tbsp olive oil (optional) Salt & pepper, to taste Fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional) Directions: Set your IP to sauté mode and allow it to heat up while you prepare your meatballs in a separate bowl. You can use either ground beef or ground turkey for these meatballs. I like using half ground chuck and half Italian sausage for added flavor.

If you’re using Italian sausage, remove casings before mixing with other ingredients. Once your IP is hot enough that water droplets sizzle when they hit its surface, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to coat bottom of pot and brown meatballs on all sides until cooked through. Remove from pot once done and set aside on a plate covered with paper towels to drain excess fat off meatballs. Turn off sauté mode and set IP to cook at high pressure for 5 minutes.

When timer beeps, turn pressure release valve to venting position to release steam until float valve drops down. When float valve drops down completely, open lid carefully as steam will escape vigorously at first. Using an immersion blender or regular blender, blend together crushed tomatoes and spices into a smooth sauce.

Add blended sauce back into Instant Pot along with meatballs and chicken broth. Stir well to combine ingredients together evenly before setting IP back onto cook at high pressure for another 5 minutes. Once timer beeps again, turn pressure release valve back to venting position until float valve drops down completely then open lid carefully as steam will escape vigorously at first again.

Notes

Nothing goes with spaghetti quite like marinara sauce. This simple tomato sauce is a staple of Italian-American cooking and is usually made with plum tomatoes, olive oil, onion, garlic, oregano and basil.

Because it's so often used as a base for pasta dishes, it's also very common to see further additions such as red wine vinegar or sugar that make each chef's version unique. The following recipe makes three cups of sauce. Note that because you'll be using less oil than most jarred marinara sauces - a tablespoon rather than three tablespoons - your yield will be smaller too.

You can use any type of canned tomatoes in place of whole plum tomatoes; just make sure they're crushed or diced before adding them to your food processor. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, dried herbs work fine in their place. Use one teaspoon of dried oregano and one teaspoon of dried basil instead of two teaspoons fresh.

If you want to add some extra flavor to your sauce, try sautéing an additional half cup chopped onion with your other vegetables before blending everything together. Finally, if you plan to freeze your sauce, leave out the salt until after it has thawed. Salt will cause water to separate from solids when frozen foods are defrosted and could lead to spoilage. For freezing instructions, scroll down! 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled plum tomatoes

2 cloves garlic, minced

3 tablespoons olive oil, divided

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil, or 1 teaspoon dried basil

1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano, or 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and black pepper to taste Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add tomatoes and cook for 10 seconds. Remove from water with tongs and plunge into an ice bath until cool enough to handle. Peel skins off tomatoes; discard skins. Place peeled tomatoes in a food processor with garlic, 2 tablespoons olive oil, red pepper flakes if using, basil and oregano. Pulse until everything is combined but still chunky. Transfer mixture to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove frfromom heat and stir in remaining tablespoon of olive oil; season with salt and black pepper as desired. Serve warm or at room temperature. To freeze: Pour marinara sauce into freezer-safe containers or bags, leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Cool completely before freezing. Store frozen sauce up to six months; thaw overnight in refrigerator before using. Makes 3 cups (enough for one pound of pasta). Recipe by Erin Murray

Dietician's note: For best results, use low-fat ground beef. Low-fat ricotta cheese will also work well in place of whole milk ricotta cheese; add some additional cooking time to ensure that it's fully heated through.

To freeze marinara sauce for later use, cool completely before transferring to freezer bags or containers. Thaw overnight in refrigerator before using. This recipe makes enough sauce for one pound of pasta (or two servings).

If you'd like to double or triple it, just make sure you have enough room in your freezer and plan accordingly! Note that if you do freeze your sauce, salt should be added after thawing because salt can cause water separation when frozen foods are defrosted. If you're looking for a lower-calorie option than whole milk ricotta cheese - which is fairly high in fat - try part skim ricotta instead! The texture won't be quite as creamy but it'll still taste great with your Pasta.

Recipes with ground turkey, turkey sausage or turkey bacon can easily be substituted in any of these recipes for chicken. Just keep an eye on how much liquid you’re adding and adjust your seasonings accordingly so that you don’t end up with too much liquid at the end. When preparing frozen vegetables from scratch, look for a variety that doesn’t include sauces such as cream of mushroom soup or ranch dressing. Those types tend to contain lots of extra calories and fat!
