Operating System
Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, with Oppo’s ColorOS 5.2 custom skin built atop it. You can expect Android 9 Pie to arrive soon after launch (there's no mention of it right now).
A few more features in Android 9 Pie include Neural Networks API which uses machine learning for optimizations in apps, better battery life, and Wi-Fi Round Trip Time (RTT) support which allows apps to get information faster.
Perhaps best is that you can now use Google Duo video calls while also having a phone call active; two chats at once! I've never understood why we can't do that already. That's just a taste of what to expect with Android 9 Pie if you pick up an F21 Pro. The full list of new features is available here.
It's pretty awesome how quickly manufacturers are getting updates out to their phones these days. We're almost at a point where you could buy a new phone and have all your major software problems solved within 2 months, depending on how fast your manufacturer pushes out patches.
The only thing holding them back are carrier approval times, which may take longer than some people would like but are ultimately necessary to ensure quality control standards are met across carriers worldwide.
While my ZTE Axon 7 from 2016 still hasn't received Android Oreo yet, I'm not worried about it because everyone else who owns one has gotten their update or will very soon. And as long as my update comes before April 2019, when my warranty expires, I'll be happy.
All phones should be held to similar timeframes for OS updates, even those running iOS or Windows Phone 10 Mobile. However there are still companies that need to work harder at releasing updates faster - such as Essential and Blackberry/TCL - whose devices aren't exactly new anymore but still haven't received any big software updates since release day last year.
It's disappointing to see companies neglecting their customers so much, especially considering they didn't spend hundreds of dollars on a device without expecting timely updates. If you want something newer than an iPhone X but don't want to pay flagship prices for it, then look into either the F21 Pro or its slightly cheaper sibling, the F11 Pro.
Both offer great value for money and excellent performance at a fraction of what other flagships cost. If you're looking for something smaller and cheaper than either of those options then check out our review of both versions of Samsung's Galaxy S10e instead.
What's next for the F21 Pro? Only time will tell. But I hope that, at the very least, it gets Android 9 Pie and Android Q updates. Maybe a new color option or two wouldn't hurt either. I love my black Oppo F11 Pro but a blue or red version would look amazing with this design.

We are looking at a rather typical design here from Oppo. The backside has curved edges and there is a nice display notch in place up top as well. It looks good, but we could see some people not liking that notch being present for some reason or another.
We do like how thin and sleek it feels in hand however, despite its larger size compared to something like an iPhone XS Max or Galaxy Note 9. You can tell immediately that you are holding onto a solid device here with decent durability thanks to its metal frame and build quality overall. This isn’t going to be a super fragile phone by any means. In fact, it might even be more durable than other options out there right now due to its smaller screen size.
That makes sense since most phones with bigger screens tend to have glass fronts and backs that are easy to crack or shatter if dropped just right. This one seems like it would hold up better against drops based on our initial impressions here today.
The display itself is also pretty impressive, although nothing too crazy. It's a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel with 1080 x 2340 resolution and 403 pixels per inch density. The colors look really vibrant and viewing angles are great too.
Brightness levels seem about average for what we expect from AMOLED panels these days, so no real complaints there either. Overall, it's a really nice display. There is also a fingerprint scanner located below the display and two cameras placed horizontally on both sides of that scanner.
So far they aren't anything special though and they certainly don't stand out in any way whatsoever. We'll need to spend more time with them before making final judgments though. Overall, we're excited to get further acquainted with everything else about this phone over time!
It has tons of potential and lots of great features. It should make for a nice mid-range option for those who want something a little different from Samsung or Apple devices, but aren't willing to spend $1000+ on their next smartphone purchase. Read More >>>>

Another cool feature we love about this device is its fingerprint sensor located at the back. Unlike other phones which require you to press down or swipe your finger across it, simply holding your finger over where OPPO logo appears does all the magic.
